Yes, that was Cyber Monday, but their 30% off promotion has this happy small print: On Monday, December 01, 2014, VMware released VMware Workstation 11, with VMware Player 7 Pro. Why exactly? This way, I can run a VM of my Windows 7 Professional full-screen, across all three monitors, and have easy access to snapshots and other Workstation-only, developer-focused features, all running very quickly off my 1TB Samsung SSD.
So when it comes to my "daily driver" OS of choice, my Windows 8.1 16GB RAM ThinkPad W520 laptop runs VMware Workstation. Yes, the dirty little secret is that Windows 7 Pro has no multi-monitor support via RDP sessions, so I cannot run it on my distant ESXi host, and expect to be able to use my triple monitors. Yes, I run the very powerful and efficient ESXi 5.5 in my home lab.
